Ugly Cousin

The moth is considered to be less beautiful than a butterfly, but is that true?
While observing I saw something that looked like a butterfly but after doing further research I found out that is wasn't a butterfly but a moth. I was a little taken back by this because I thought moths only came out at night. During my research I found many moths that look way better than butterflies but the moth that I saw was the typical ugly moth that most people see, the forage looper moth.

I personally don't like bugs and bugs that fly just make my fear worse. The fact that this moth can grow bigger than a quarter sounds pretty scary. There really isn't anything interesting about this moth, it eats grasses. Compared to the other moths I saw I can easily say this is one of the less flashy moths out of the rest. The color of the forage looper moth is dull and boring. This moth can be a zombie like form of a butterfly. I would hate to be the butterfly whose mother tells them to go to prom with this cousin.

  1. The last line makes this blog worth it. (I mean that as a cmpliment.) I often wonder what makes us decide something is pretty and good or ugly and bad. Some of the things we call weeds are sort of pretty.

  3. I was always freaked out by moths. they just gave me the creeps. But reading this actually did make me less creeped out about them. And I agree with Ms. Farias, what determines whether something is ugly or beautiful?
